MAYWEATHER READIES FOR MOSELY, "NOTICEABLY EDGY, DENYING VISITORS, EXTENDING TRAINING HOURS" SAYS L.A. TIMES

Unless you've been in the Tibetan mountains for the past few months, you know that Floyd "Money" Mayweather, Jr. and "Sugar" Shane Mosley will go head to head in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand this Saturday, May 1st. Mayweather is putting his 40-0 record on the line but he doesn't seem fazed if you have been watching HBO's 24/7-- a  (4 week) behind the scenes documentary series which gives us an upclose view of the boxers during the tail end of training camp.

Floyd and Shane are polar opposites as far as personality goes, and we don't need a documentary to show us that. But, as for who has the better boxing skills and savvy, well, we will just have to wait until Saturday to see who's really ready. Mosley, at 38 years old, is the underdog.  He has been out of the action for more than a year and again-- he's 38. And, 38 years old ain't the new 28 in the boxing ring. On the other hand, Mayweather, at 33 years old,  is as fit and confident as any athlete ten years his junior. That, along with his 40-0 record, which includes a win against Oscar De La Hoya (the most lucrative in boxing history), gives him the edge-- in our opinion.

But, if you know boxing, you understand that no boxer's win is a sure thing (unless a deal is made in the promoter's office, but that's another story). Many dynamics come into play, and any one of them can change the game. This may be why, according to www.latimes.com, Mayweather is "edgy, denying visitors, and extending his training hours" as the clock winds down to Saturday's fight. If this is the case, it's good to know that Mayweather is taking Sugar Shane seriously despite all of his clowning, because our money is on Money to win.

There are more interesting tidbits in the article about Mayweather's upbringing, including mention of his resistance to "wearing big boots and lifting barbells everyday", his mother's daily drug abuse and his father's drug-dealing arrest. There's talk about the devotion to his bodyguards, which gives us a warm and fuzzy side of Mayweather that is missed in the 24/7 series. We suggest you read it in full here http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-floyd-mayweather-20100428,0,5747661.story
