The Crystal Cathedral Mega Church has filed for bankruptcy in an effort to stop the bleeding of their 7.5 million dollar debt. The Orange County based church is the home of the "Hour of Power" telecast, which is filmed in the cathedral's main sanctuary. At one point the show attracted 1.3 million viewers in 156 countries. They blame their debt on country's economic downturn, and say though earnings records may appear okay now, revenue declined dramatically in 2009 and they have yet to recover. The more interesting backstory for us is that in 2006, founding Pastor Robert H. Schuller gave total control of church affairs to his son Robert A. But after Robert's daughter Christina appeared as a cast member on the MTV Reality Show, Laguna Beach, he stripped Robert A. of everything and handed it to daughter Sheila who is still Senior Pastor today.

We were avid "Laguna Beach" fans and totally remember Christina. She wanted to be a singer but was torn between her uber-religious family and her dreams of secular stardom. We haven't heard a peep out of her since, so guess that didn't work out so much. Wonder if she's still friends with "Laguna" stars Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari? Eh. Probably not. Anyway, back to the church. Yeah, they're broke. Maybe they should sell that monstrous glass
penis building. Surely some other preaching ego-maniac would be interested. Did we hear someone say Pastor Eddie Long? Oh, sorry! That was in our heads!

Knew she was a preacher's daughter (that was a big part of her "storyline") but didn't know she was a descendant of the Crystal Cathedral Mega Church. Wonder how they will be affected by the bankruptcy filings. We kind of suspect all personal finances are in order.

whats goin on with these churches today? they are all falling. i didn't know Christina from Laguna Beach was Schuller's grandfather. i used to watch that show too.

This is the scam that is mega churches ... hide the profits and and lay blame of the times after the main draw passed on...

Now u know those...well u know "people" in the community or members will NOT allow that church 2 fall like the crumbling walls of Jericho...They may have missed Easter this year, but I doubt Xmas...u know a candle light visual will be held 4 sure....don't hate me...just speaking out LOUD....LOL
