Steve Stout Slams Grammys with an "Open Letter" ...
Via EW:
Well, someone has to stand up for Justin Bieber! One award? Come ON! (semi-sarcasm) Pop the Trunk for the rest of the letter...
Over the course of my 20-year history as an executive in the music business and as the owner of a firm that specializes in in-culture advertising, I have come to the conclusion that the Grammy Awards have clearly lost touch with contemporary popular culture. My being a music fan has left me with an even greater and deeper sense of dismay — so much so that I feel compelled to write this letter. Where I think that the Grammys fail stems from two key sources: (1) over-zealousness to produce a popular show that is at odds with its own system of voting and (2) fundamental disrespect of cultural shifts as being viable and artistic.

In the commercial, Keys tells the story behind her first album “Songs in A Minor” (2001), how HP technology helps her record music, and her appreciation for how it lets people hear her music the way she intends for it to sound. "I like to be with most creative and relevant currently. I pride myself in being am opinion leader and trying to just know tasteful things first. And I know the constraints you have when you're good and you just don't have the platform to showcase it.
Some people only listen to Hot 97... and don't know anything about some of these good artists that are doing shows on a daily basis in front of the masses."
