With all of this going on, Wyclef has also recently stepped down from his leadership role at the organization, Yele Haiti, which he he founded and ran since inception in 2005. This news followed reports that Wyclef, via Yele Haiti, owes the IRS an upwards of $2 million dollars. All we can say is that he must REALLY want this to go through all of this scrutiny. And, it's not over yet. In actuality, it's just beginning, as he just officially announced his candidacy, entering a crowded race of presidential wanna-be's-- one of them his own uncle, a former Haitian ambassador.
Via News Scotsman:
The winner of the election on 28 November, inherits a destroyed capital, 1.6 million homeless people and countless groups fighting over billions of dollars of international reconstruction funds pledged after the earthquake that killed an estimated 300,000 people in January.Yeah, that sound like fun.
Oh-- yeah, and did we mention that actor Sean Penn is questioning Clef's motives? Yes, he is. He's says he's been working on the relief in Haiti for 6 months and hasn't see Clef there once. See the video below, followed by Wyclef's response.
Wyclef responded, telling the Miami Herald:
"I feel that it is irresponsible for him to attack my character like that, without proof of talking to me. Because everything he is saying is pure speculation. Because he is in one little area... He can't let that be judged for nine million people inside of a country. hat's very unprofessional. I look forward to having a fas a fas with him."
