WOMEN: STUDY SAYS SITTING FOR LONG PERIODS INCREASES CHANCES OF DYING EARLY...

We came across this story and couldn't pass up sharing. According to a study published by the American Cancer Society, women who sit for more than 6 hours per day increase their mortality rate by 37%, "even if they chain themselves to their treadmills", which is a significant difference to that of men at 17%.  For women who do not exercise (opposite of those surveyed) increase their death rate by 94%. We've got the "how" so the question is "why"?

They say sitting "suppresses hormones that affect triglycerides & cholesterols, which could trigger heart disease". For many women, it's that office chair that keeps them bound but the answer is to get up at least once every hour (or close to it) to stretch, and even walk around if possible. The same applies for you couch potatoes! The message: Get off your asses for longer lives.... or, sit your way to a slow suicide. You decide. [NY POST]

  2. Well they don't say that the sitting is weight related and they don't say why the sitting is bad-incomplete study or article-Yes sitting and doing no exercise is totally bad for health- agreed- question is why if person works out on the treadmill and sits it is still high risk?

  3. Anonymous, read the whole post. It says why it's bad. You're right, they don't discuss weight but only that it can lead to heart disease.
