BOXING CHAMP JAMES TONEY DEFEATED BY MMA CHAMP RANDY COUTURE-- WILL BOXING EVER BE ABLE TO RECOVER FROM THE MMA TAKEOVER? (VIDEO)

To boxing fans, James Toney IS an "Ultimate Fighter". But unfortunately the one-of-a-kind champion pro boxer who has earned middleweight, super-middleweight, cruiser-weight, and heavyweight titles wasn't able make the move from boxing to MMA the way he and his fans had hoped. Toney fought MMA champ Randy Couture and got taken down and defeated within the first five seconds of the first round. He came out with his fists up like he was in a straight up boxing match, but Couture got him with a "low single" ankle clip and Toney went down like a gunshot victim. James Toney, 42, wasn't even able to get off one punch. Nope, the one punch he claimed would take Couture, 47, down wouldn't see the light of day.

The question is this: Why would James Toney sign up to fight Couture, a seasoned MMA champion, for his first challenge? Was it Toney's ego? Or, did he need the big name for the big payday? Whatever his reason, he can't be happy with the outcome. Having met Toney personally, we know his personality is one of "I'm always on top no matter what". He does not accept defeat. But we doubt that he tries to come back from this loss with a rematch. Couture is just too good at what he does. We didn't see the actual fight, only clips on ESPN, and we can't wait until it's up. Until then, you can listen to the commentators dissect the fight below. Will boxing die and let MMA take over? Or, will the two continue to co-exist peacefully? One thing is for sure, this fight proves the two won't mesh into one happy sport any time soon.
