This story was so bizarre that we had to share. So, apparently, it's Turkish tradition to shoot a gun after a wedding. Well, this is not a tradition without flaws. And, it's not uncommon for injuries to occur from stray bullets. Hell, there was even a family-wars shoot out right after a Turkish wedding last year where 40 people were killed. But this one is sad because it wasn't a deliberate incident. Word is, the groom's cousin handed him an AK47 to commence to shooting in the air, and he LOST CONTROL of the gun which led to him shooting and killing HIS FATHER, and two of his aunts (18 & 55 years old). Both the groom and the cousin have since been arrested. As our intern said after hearing about this:

wow! That is sad, but then.....why do you continue with such a dangerous tradition. Whom am I to say...Well, I feel for everyone involved. Hopefully the innocent wont be imprisoned. Darn his own father?? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteYup, his own father. What a sad day the wedding became, yeah? And, yes, the tradition is one that has been back and forth with Turkish Administration for years. Hopefully, this will be the nail in the coffin with regards to its practice. It's so embedded in the culture though, it will probably be a long while before it's totally abolished.
