1998 was a good year for female emcee's and Vibe magazine validates this with these old school covers from said year. But what has happened to the female emcee in the years following? Where is she today? Sure, there's Nicki Minaj, but she has Li'l Wayne and crew behind her (in other words: she's a developed/manufactured artist pushed by the hottest rapper on deck). She can't be the only female rapper in existence with that "IT" factor. Why is it so hard for female emcee's to get on? Well, the documentary, "My Mic Sounds Nice: The Truth About Women and Hip Hop" premiered on BET last night, and it explores all of these questions and then some, with some of rap's biggest names speaking out on the subject. Interesting stuff for any inquisitive mind. Pop the Trunk to check it out...

LAURYN HILL COMES OUT OF THE SHADOWS, SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT ABOUT HER HIATUS...
Lauryn Hill has pleased many a fan after talking to NPR Music about why she left the game when she was white-hot, and then taking things further by going into exile. She also discusses being the mother of 5 chil'ren (!) and how now since her youngest is 2, she starting to feel her energy again and is getting excited about performing. We hope this is the case this time, 'cause we've heard it before. Lauryn was hands-down the hottest chick in the game, and we're beyond ready for her comeback. [NPR]
