Little Queens, NY born Broadway star Shannon Tavarez, 11, passed away Monday, November 1st, after a long battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Shannon played the role of young Nala when the show debuted at the Apollo Theater September 2009 until her symptoms began in April 2010. Her story got the attention of Beyonce and Rihanna who both used their public platform to campaign for her to receive the bone marrow transplant that she so desperately needed. Unfortunately, while using temporary alternatives, doctors had been unable to find a match. Check out Shannon singing "Tomorrow" at the Harlem School of the Arts where she attended prior to booking the show (which she auditioned for with her coach's encouragement). She was clearly a bright light on this earth. R.I.P. Shannon.
