Via Cnn.com:
The 333-79 vote required Rangel to stand in the well of the House as a formal censure resolution was read aloud by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California.
That goes for him AND the whole lot of 'em whose crimes will go unacknowledged. Ugh! How embarrassing and degrading!
The House ethics committee recently recently found the 20-term Harlem Democrat guilty on 11 counts of violating House rules, including failing to pay taxes on a vacation home in the Dominican Republic and improperly using his office to raise money for an educational center bearing his name.
It was also noted that 9 other Congressmen had been reprimanded on ethics charges but not since 1983 had anyone been censured. Though the aforementioned (one Republican, one Democrat) were reprimanded for sexual rendezvous with pages (aka interns...Monica Lewinsky ring a bell?).
Reportedly, though there was enough misconduct for a reprimand but Rep. John Tanner, D-Tennessee stated that "there is no evidence of "criminal intent" or "moral purgitude"', which are clearly the ingredients needed for censure. C'Mon, the guy's been in office for 20 terms. What did he really do? Besides, get caught? He's an old school politician, among tens of dozens of other old school politicians doing no less. Robert Rizzo anyone?
Bring it on Right!
