THE BET AWARDS INVADED L.A. THIS WEEKEND...

The 10th annual BET Awards smashed through L.A. this weekend, and filmed yesterday at the Shrine auditorium. Admittedly, we didn't watch (other thangs to do!) but according to sources it was a hit. Queen Latifah hosted (assisted by her alter-ego Cleo from "Set it Off"), and there were performances galore from Drake, Eminem, Usher and Kanye, to Keisha Cole, Monica, and Nicki Minaj. We heard (Twitter) Chris Brown did the dang thing with his MJ tribute (tears and all... were they for MJ, or his career?), Alicia Keys glowed as she performed her last performance while pregnant, Prince received a lifetime achievement award, and El Debarge made a "comeback performance"?-- for those two alone it's worth a DVR look. Wait, there's more...

YOUNG BLACK HOLLYWOOD IS ALL GROWN UP...

How awesome is it to see Black Hollywood all grown up. Think about it: Jay Z was hustlin' CD's out of the back of his trunk, Beyonce was a bubble-gum chewin' teen tryin' to make it with her girl-group, Jada was the feisty li'l slick talkin' chick on shows like "A Different World", and Will was busy rappin' about how his "Parents Just Don't Understand". Now they're all sitting pretty in their couture dresses and tuxedos at events like this one, the 64th Annual Tony Awards. Talk about transformations! They're just proof of what can happen when you pursue your dreams... and of course, connections and money don't hurt either! [Clutch]

ROLLING STONE MAG CROWNS JAY Z KING OF AMERICA?

Rap star and business mogul Sean Carter, better known as Jay-Z, covers the much respected Rolling Stone magazine's latest issue, entitled "How Jay-Z Became King of America". Doin' too much? The moniker makes since, given Jay's rags to riches story and considering his influence in industry today. Think about it. America is the birthplace of capitalism, and nobody has mastered the art better than Jay. Not only does make major moves in music industry, but he is also a major player in the worlds of business, finance, fashion and sports. Not to mention the fact that he's married to Beyonce, one of pop culture's greatest influences today. Yeah, King of America could be a befitting working title for Jay after all. #NotABadLook [Global Grind]

We're no STANS but we love this video. She didn't even rock it like this in Caddilac Records! Plus, we love classic films (shout out to Turner Movie Classics!) and this is definitely circa 1950's.

SCANDAL: Scott Storch Rose and Fell in "Spectacular Fashion" and the Miami New Times Gives Us All the Dirt

Well, this story isn't a new one, especially in Hollywood, but it's so scandalous we had to give it a mention. Hip Hop megaproducer Scott Storch is broke, having spent all of his millions in "spectacular fashion", and writer Gus Garcia-Roberts delves deep into his skeleton filled closet giving us all the dirt on Storch's rise and subsequent downfall in six-page expose' for Miami New Times online.

If you know Hiip Hop then you know Scott Storch. Known mostly for is Liberace-esque flamboyancy, it was also hard to miss that he was a white man in a black man's world-- Hip Hop beat making. His moms says that it is because she was so over-protective that he even had his music career. She says she refused to let his scrawny butt play sports, so she instead stuck him on a piano and gifted him with lessons. But it's also revealed that Scott has music in his blood. His father, brother, his great great grandfather, and even mom Yolanda (who bitterly snitched on his deadbeat ways in the article) were musical performers of some-sort.

With that in mind, it seems that music was his destiny. The fact that he was performing paid gigs by age 12, and by adulthood he was creating top ten hits left and right says it all. The roster of top ten hit songs is uber-impressive (some include  "Dr. Dre's "Still D.R.E", Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River", Fat Joe's "Lean Back", Beyonce's "Naughty Girl", and Chris Brown's "Run It") and it's clear has genuine talent. It's unfortunate, though, that there was no guidance for him where his money was concerned... and, of course, the drugs. *SMH* It's quoted that Storch's cocaine habit was so bad that "he now paired his jewelry with shirts stained from "blood that would just gush out of his nose at any given time."  Eww,that's so sick!

Miami New Times (where we got the story) also reported that BlueWave Music Group purchased his entire music catalog, valued at $70 Million, for mere $7 Million.  His manager and friend, Derek Jackson is President of BlueWave and MNT suspects the low-ball purchase is more of bailout for Storch who is bogged down with all sorts of judgements and other legal entaglements due to his downfall. Hopefully, he will use the bailout $ wisely and then get back in the studio and crank out some more hits. Word is that he's working on the infamous decade-in-the-making DETOX album with Dr. Dre. Most importantly, we hope Storch gets his mind right 'cause with that in the gutter, there's no hope.

SPOTTED: Bey & Jay Say Goodbye to Coachella, Spotted Strolling Thru LAX

Royal Hip Hop couple Jay Z & Beyonce saying goodbye to the Coachella Music Festival (Indio, CA) yesterday, were seen at LAX before jetting off looking very worn out relaxed and casual. :) Hey, what do you think of Bey's outfit? We like it and think she looks like a modern day (golden) goddess, but blogger Sandra Rose said Bey looks ridiculous. Seriously, Sandra? We mention Sandra 'cause we lifted the pic from her site. We don't agree with her viewpoints but she does break good stories. *saluting Sandra...with the middle finger up* Ok, that.is.all. Thanks for hanging.
